OUR MISSION
RANGWI
MOTHER HOUSE
In
the 1950s Bishop Arthurs of the Catholic Diocese of Tanga purchased land on the
slopes of Usambara Mountains a place named rangwi which was meant to be a
convent, a home and a formation centre for the newly established congregation
of the sisters of our lady of Usambara. 4 years later the first bunch of
formees made their first religious vows. Today Rangwi stands out as the Origin
indigenous Mother house of the Usambara sisters. In the early years, it used to
serve as candidacy, Postulancy, Novitiate and Junior and senior sisters’
convent all under one roof. Today Rangwi convent Hosts the Postulancy and
Novitiate formation houses as well as the Sisters’ catechetical Institute.
The biggest challenge has always been
education which is the only way to liberate a society. Considering the Tanga
Region which has for a long time been marginalized on matters education the
congregation of the Sisters’ of our lady of Usambara has dedicated its
resources into educating the society As the aim of the founder of the
Congregation was to proclaim God’s news by teaching and guiding people.
Because of that, the Congregation has the
Catechetical Training Centre at Rangwi where the sisters are trained for two
years. Moreover, Bishop Eugen wished that, the Sisters study secular education
in order to cope with the changing World of Globalisation. As the Congregation
continues to expand, we continue to prepare the environment which meets the
needs of the Society. Congregation has invested so much in education and health
which makes it to be one of the stake holders in supporting the Government of Tanzania.
The following are Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary schools owned by the
Congregation:
Besides
taking care of spiritual needs, Body health is equally important. The Sisters
of our lady of Usambara have dedicated their lives into providing quality and
affordable health care to all regardless of race, religion and ethnic groups.
The idea started under a Mango tree in Kwamndolwa convent when sisters began
offering first aid and dispensing medicine and food to the locals. The need
outgrew and there was every need to start a hospital and that gave rise to St
Joseph’s Health Centre Kwamndolwa. It provides quality health care not only to
the residents but to diverse people seeking treatment. Apart from St. Joseph
health centre the congregation owns a number of Health facilities including:
Rangwi Dispensary, St Michael’s Dispensary – Lushoto, St Monica Health centre –
Kabuku, Kongei Dispensary and Kididima Health centre – muheza. Besides the
sisters offer Health services in Diocesan and Government owned facilities
