EDUCATION

The biggest challenge has always been education which is the only way to liberate a society. Considering the Tanga Region which has for a long time been marginalized on matters education the congregation of the Sisters’ of our lady of Usambara has dedicated its resources into educating the society As the aim of the founder of the Congregation was to proclaim God’s news by teaching and guiding people.

Because of that, the Congregation has the Catechetical Training Centre at Rangwi where the sisters are trained for two years. Moreover, Bishop Eugen wished that, the Sisters study secular education in order to cope with the changing World of Globalisation. As the Congregation continues to expand, we continue to prepare the environment which meets the needs of the Society. Congregation has invested so much in education and health which makes it to be one of the stake holders in supporting the Government of Tanzania. HEALTH

Besides taking care of spiritual needs, Body health is equally important. The Sisters of our lady of Usambara have dedicated their lives into providing quality and affordable health care to all regardless of race, religion and ethnic groups. The idea started under a Mango tree in Kwamndolwa convent when sisters began offering first aid and dispensing medicine and food to the locals. The need outgrew and there was every need to start a hospital and that gave rise to St Joseph’s Health Centre Kwamndolwa. It provides quality health care not only to the residents but to diverse people seeking treatment. Apart from St. Joseph health centre the congregation owns a number of Health facilities including: Rangwi Dispensary, St Michael’s Dispensary – Lushoto, St Monica Health centre – Kabuku, Kongei Dispensary and Kididima Health centre – muheza. Besides the sisters offer Health services in Diocesan and Government owned facilities

KWAMNDOLWA

Residents of Korogwe, a strategic town located along the Dar es salaam – Arusha highway are familiar with the vehicles written “Sisters convent Kwamndolwa”. Many bypassers have been wondering what is Kwamdolwa. Well the story started in the 1970s when the Sisters’ numbers were increasing rapidly and the Rangwi convent couldn’t hold more and so there was need to look for a new spacious piece of land. The then superior General who happened to be the First Native head of the congregation switched on her landrover and drove to the District commissioners office to ask for land. The commissioner directed her to a sisal farm in the kwamndolwa village which was owned by a white settler and that was on sale. Luckily they bought the land which had a house that would serve as their starting point. They began clearing the bush to pave way for building and the house they found on the land became multi-purpose serving as sleeping area, dinning hall, Chapel and sitting Room. It took a lot of efforts and dedication to build a place that would later become the mother house and the Headquarters of the congregation of the sisters of our lady of Usambara. Today kwamndolwa is punctuated by magnificent buildings, A big church, conference halls and sisters’ hostels; above all a food crop’s farm that feeds the entire congregation and sometimes the less privileged village neighbours!
